The Naming of Florida
Mr. Holiday tells of the 1513 ship’s log entry of 30 degrees eight minutes and what the name of this location is today. Mr. Holiday is a local St. Augustine merchant who has owned Dan Holiday Leather in St. Augustine for over 50 years. The documentary explains some Florida historical aspects of the 1513 Ponce de Leon landing at or near what is now Mickler's Landing at Ponte Vedra, Florida. Mr. Bowman talks about Ponce and the explorers of 1513, the new world, and navigator Anton de Alaminos. Anton de Alaminos, Ponce’s navigator, discovered the Gulf Stream during Ponce’s 1513 voyage.
