Historic documentary film topics come from great places.Working on historic documentary films in our nation's oldest city is a fascinating vocation because every film is different and there is a time frame from the present to 1513 to choose stories from. Long time St. Augustine resident and friend Dan Holliday guided me early on making choices for documentaries. He has shared his ideas on what stories are important to tell and why they are important. St. Augustine City Commitioner Nancy sites Cline has helped me with key interests here in a city where there is so much to film that choosing topic of interest is not limited to available stories but how to tell or unfold the story, who to target as an audience with the story.
Point Of View
POV (point of view)Filming historic documentary films from St. Augustine I can relax my anxieties over POV because the subject provides her own POV for every set up. In cinematic terms many times as a director I must first ask myself whose point of view is this? Then I must answer whose point of view will I film this POV from, what audience will respond to what POV. If I stay in the minutia of POV to long the sun will set and I will loose my light for the day and go back to the edit suite with no shots.
